So thrilled to announce my first novel, “The Seven Day Switch”, won ROSA’s Strelitzia Award for “most promising novel of 2019” by an unpublished author! (I think an exclamation mark is called for, under the circumstances.)
The Strelitzia Award is run by the Romance writers Organisation of South Africa (ROSA), the home of romance authors here at the bottom end of Africa, and was awarded at the gala dinner held during ROSACon, the annual conference.
A huge thank you to ROSA. This time last year, I was a wannabe author adrift in a small dinghy in the middle of an endless sea of how-the-hell-do-I-do-this. (Believe me, this novel-writing thing is no easy-peasy, write-and-hit-publish lark!) The ROSA authors set up a beacon on the shore and showed me which way to paddle, and today, I have a finished, polished manuscript and a solid plan to get published. If you’re a new, wannabe author, do yourself a favour a find a similar group of authors to join where-ever you live.
And then a gigantic, you-rock thank you to my talented Strelitzia mentor, Suzanne Jefferies, who, apart from some spot-on developmental suggestions, told me to stop staring at my navel, forget everything I’d read about writing craft that wasn’t specifically about romance, and Just. Write. The. Damn. Book. (Suzanne’s the author of a stack of romances, including the super-fun “Jozi Series” rom-coms, and the steamy, erotic Voluptuary Pleasures books. She’s also a kick-ass writing coach and editor.)
Here’s a list of previous Strelitzia winners.
