Hi, I’m Meg Chronis, author of sassy, fun, feel-good romance. Adulting can be a tiresome occupation, which is why we could all do with a good romance novel!
Rom-coms are my romance drug of choice. I love writing about clever, accomplished, independent women who get up to all kinds of humorous hijinks, and of course, the men who can’t help but fall in love with them … sexy, strong men who’re good, kind and generous beneath their tough, easy-on-the-eye exteriors.
HOW I STARTED WRITING
I have spent over two decades as a magazine feature writer, magazine editor, and freelance commercial writer. Books have always been my thing though; I have an Honours degree in English from the University of the Witwatersrand.
In my teens, I was a voracious reader of horror. In my twenties, I moved away from horror to fantasy novels and thrillers, before finally washing up on the shores of Romancelandia.
And what a fabulous, soul-inspiring place it is! And what a privilege to be able to spend my waking hours dreaming up new romantic stories.
THE PERSONAL STUFF
I live in Johannesburg, South Africa (that country right at the bottom of the African continent), with my good, kind, generous, sexy, strong husband (you see where I get my inspiration for my fictional men?). I met him at university in the Wits Explorers white-water rafting club, and married him three years later because I knew he was The One. Now, in my mid-forties, he is still The One and the reason I can keep believing that true love can, and does exist (an important belief for a romance writer to have).
We have two clever, funny, inspiring teenage daughters who absolutely junk all the accepted clap-trap about teenagers being an awful stage to parent. They’re more fun now than when they were little, and decidedly more useful! They’ve become really adept at thinking up synonyms for me and helping me brainstorm plot points.
We share our home with two Yorkshire terriers, spunky little guys who make us laugh.
OTHER STUFF I LOVE
I am passionate about being a South African. This place is woven deeply into my soul, into the marrow of my bones. This country and its diverse people is a bright, vibrant, noisy, loud, beautiful, exciting, raw, inspiring and challenging place to live.
I love playing the violin. It is the instrument of my soul. I play a beautiful tiger-backed violin that is over eighty years old: one day, when I’m over eighty, I might finally do it justice!
I love African beaded artwork and sparkly notebooks from Typo and pencils – if I write by hand, I only do it in pencil … there’s something about that scratch, scratch of lead on paper – and scented candles and chocolate and South Africa’s permanently blue skies and the way people here will strike up conversations with complete strangers in the supermarket checkout queue … but I reckon that’s enough about me for now.
Back to the writing, because these books aren’t going to finish themselves.
